Curry Type: MILD
Butter Chicken, or Murgh Makhani, is a classic Indian dish with a rich, creamy tomato-based sauce. Using a pre-made Nosh Spice Butter Chicken Mix makes it faster and more convenient to prepare this delicious meal.
Ingredients
For the Marinade:
- 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- 1 tbsp Nosh Spice Butter Chicken Mix
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt to taste
For the Sauce:
- 2 tbsp butter or ghee
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 2 tbsp tomato puree (blend 2 fresh tomatoes)
- 1 tsp honey or sugar
- 1 tbsp Nosh Spice Butter Chicken Mix
- ½ cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp Nosh Spice Garam Masala
Cooking Method
Step 1: Marinade the Chicken
- In a large bowl, mix the yogurt, Nosh Spice Butter Chicken Mix, ginger paste, garlic paste, lemon juice, and salt.
- Add the chicken pieces and coat them thoroughly with the marinade.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is ideal for deeper flavour).
Step 2: Cook the Chicken
- Grill, bake, or pan-fry the marinated chicken until fully cooked and slightly browned.
- Set aside.
Step 3: Prepare the Sauce
- In a large skillet or pan, melt the butter or ghee over medium heat.
- Add the ginger paste and garlic paste, sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the tomato puree and 1 tbsp of Nosh Spice Butter Chicken Mix.
- Cook the mixture for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the oil starts to separate from the sauce.
- Add honey or sugar to balance the tanginess of the tomatoes.
Step 4: Finish the Sauce
- Lower the heat and gently stir in the heavy cream. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked chicken to the sauce and mix well.
- Let the dish simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes to allow the flavours to meld together. If the sauce is too thick, you can add more cream or milk to adjust the consistency.
Step 5: Season and Serve
- Taste and adjust the salt as needed.
- Sprinkle 1 tsp of Nosh Spice Garam Masala for extra flavour.
- Serve your delicious Butter Chicken over rice, with naan, or Indian bread of your choice.
