Seekh Kebab
Seekh Kebabs are flavourful skewers of minced meat, usually seasoned with spices and herbs. Using a pre-made spice mix makes the preparation process quicker and more convenient.
Curry Type: MILD
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450g) ground lamb or beef
- 1 tablespoons ready-to-use Seekh Kebab spice mix ( NoshSpice)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro or Basil
- Salt to taste
- 1 egg (optional, for binding)
- Vegetable oil or Olive Oil (for grilling or cooking)
Recipe
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, ready-to-use Seekh Kebab spice mix, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped cilantro, cumin powder, and salt. Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
- If you’re using an egg for binding, beat the egg separately and then add it to the meat mixture. This will help the kebabs hold their shape.
- Cover the bowl and let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the flavours to meld.
- Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 30 minutes to prevent them from burning during grilling.
- Take a portion of the meat mixture and mold it onto the skewer, shaping it into a long, cylindrical kebab. Repeat with the remaining mixture and skewers.
- Brush the kebabs with a little vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Grill the kebabs for about 10-15 minutes, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking. You can also cook them in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes, turning once halfway through.
- The kebabs are done when they are cooked through and have a nice golden-brown colour on the outside.
- Serve the Seekh Kebabs hot with naan, rice, or flatbread of your choice. You can also serve them with mint chutney or yogurt sauce for dipping.
