Chana Masala

Chana Masala is a popular North Indian dish made with chickpeas in a flavourful and aromatic spiced gravy. Using a pre-made spice mix makes the cooking process quicker and more convenient.

Curry Type: MILD

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chickpeas (canned or boiled)
  • 1 tablespoons Nosh Spice Chana Masala spice mix
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste (Optional)
  • 2 Tablespoon tomato puree (2 Tomatoes if using fresh)
  • 1/2 (Half)cup water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped cilantro for garnish
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Recipe

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  • Stir in the ginger paste and garlic paste. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the tomato puree and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oil starts to separate from the masala.
  • Add the Nosh Spice Chana Masala spice mix to the pan and sauté for a minute to release the flavours.
  • Add the cooked chickpeas to the pan and mix well to coat them with the spice mix.
  • Pour in the water and stir to combine. Let the chickpeas simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together.
  • Mash some of the chickpeas with the back of a spoon to thicken the gravy slightly. Leave some chickpeas whole for texture.
  • Add salt to taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  • Garnish the Chana Masala with chopped cilantro.
  • Serve the Chana Masala hot with rice, naan, or roti. Provide lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the dish.
  • Enjoy your flavourful and hearty Chana Masala!
