Chana Masala
Chana Masala is a popular North Indian dish made with chickpeas in a flavourful and aromatic spiced gravy. Using a pre-made spice mix makes the cooking process quicker and more convenient.
Curry Type: MILD
Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked chickpeas (canned or boiled)
- 1 tablespoons Nosh Spice Chana Masala spice mix
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste (Optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic paste (Optional)
- 2 Tablespoon tomato puree (2 Tomatoes if using fresh)
- 1/2 (Half)cup water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Chopped cilantro for garnish
- Lemon wedges for serving
Recipe
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger paste and garlic paste. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oil starts to separate from the masala.
- Add the Nosh Spice Chana Masala spice mix to the pan and sauté for a minute to release the flavours.
- Add the cooked chickpeas to the pan and mix well to coat them with the spice mix.
- Pour in the water and stir to combine. Let the chickpeas simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together.
- Mash some of the chickpeas with the back of a spoon to thicken the gravy slightly. Leave some chickpeas whole for texture.
- Add salt to taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Garnish the Chana Masala with chopped cilantro.
- Serve the Chana Masala hot with rice, naan, or roti. Provide lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the dish.
- Enjoy your flavourful and hearty Chana Masala!
