Butter Chicken
Butter chicken, also known as “Murgh Makhani,” is a popular Indian dish known for its rich and creamy tomato-based sauce. Using a pre-made spice mix makes the cooking process faster and more convenient.
Curry Type: MILD
Ingredients
For the marinade:
1 pound (450g) boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
1/2 (Half) cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoons butter chicken spice mix (Nosh Spice)
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Salt to taste
For the sauce:
2 tablespoons butter or ghee
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon garlic paste
2 tablespoon tomato puree (2 Tomatoes if using fresh)
1 teaspoon Honey or Sugar
1 tablespoons butter chicken spice mix (readymade)
1/2 (Half) cup heavy cream
Salt to taste
We highly recommend adding 1 teaspoon Nosh Spice Garam Masala to the sauce.
Recipe
- In a bowl, mix the yogurt, Nosh Spice Butter chicken spice mix, ginger paste, garlic paste, lemon juice, and salt. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is ideal).
- you can grill, bake, or pan-fry the marinated chicken until it’s cooked through and slightly browned.
- In a large skillet or pan, melt the butter or ghee over medium heat.
- Add the ginger paste and garlic paste and cook for minute until fragrant.
- Add the tomato puree and butter chicken spice mix. Cook the mixture for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oil starts to separate from the sauce. Now add sugar or honey.
- Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream and milk. Allow the sauce to simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked chicken to the sauce and stir to combine. Simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld together. If the sauce seems too thick, you can add a bit more milk or cream to achieve the desired consistency.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the salt as needed.
- Serve the butter chicken over rice, naan, or with Indian bread of your choice.
- Enjoy your delicious homemade butter chicken!
